Hi, I’m Adrienne Scott, MD, at the Retina Society meeting in Los Angeles, California. I’ve just presented our research examining a prospective case series on patients with sickle cell disease, evaluating ultrawidefield fundus photography in combination with swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) with the Optos Silverstone platform. This was a series that we undertook to be able to understand how best to image patients with sickle cell disease.

We understand that retina specialists screen patients with sickle cell disease in many different ways. And we know there’s macular pathology and we know there’s peripheral retinal pathology. The Optos Silverstone platform is a very efficient way to image both the macular pathology as well as the retinal pathology in the periphery. There are lots of lesions from sickle cell retinopathy that we’ve known about for years, but never been able to characterize with the architecture that SS-OCT provides.

The Optos Silverstone platform was easy to use and easy to review and very user-friendly for the patient, being able to image both the macula and the retinal periphery on 1 unit. RP
